Preparing for Pitching a Tent

Nov

One very fun and memorable family activity is state park camping. Instead of going on grand vacations and just spend too much money on shopping, why not go camping? This way, you have more intimate moments with your loved ones and this is a great opportunity to catch up with them. This also closes any gaps and makes the family members get to know each other better. There are many basics that you can learn when out in a camping site. Parents can even teach their kids how to pitch a tent.

There are many things that you have to consider first before pitching your tent. Look for a smooth ground where you can place your tent for a more comfortable sleep. Remove any rocks or sharp materials that can damage your tent. If it becomes quite hard to look for a soft surface in the campsite, you can collect some grass or dried leaves. Spread them around the area where you will place the tent. These leaves will go under the ground cloth you are to place.

The ground cloth helps largely in capturing the rain if ever the weather does not cooperate. Place the tent on higher ground to prevent rise of water during rains. There should be good drainage in the area, too.

To make sure that you have many choices for a beautiful spot, look for different famous state parks. Indeed state park camping is always the best choice since there are different basic amenities that you and your family can enjoy. After pitching the tent, then you can focus on the other bonding activities like fishing and trekking.

Household Chores During the Rainy Season
10
Jul

Any change in weather and the seasons entails a change in the lifestyles of people. Work done around the house is not off the hook when it comes to these changes. There are some household chores that shoot up along with the coming of the rain, and there are those that require more effort and attention. Here is a short list:

Roof repairs. Well technically, this concern needs to be addressed even before the rainy season approaches. But, as the most common excuse goes, how can one know about the water drips and gutter problems without the rain seeping through or dripping inside the house?

Pay more attention to your boot room. Since muddy shoes and other footwear as well as wet coats and umbrellas will need more room, better clean up the space. Make this a regular chore, you would not want to have a muddy boot room, this messes up the idea of having the place for cleaning off the mud.

Loose the drapes. Or if you do not want to go without any, go with the lighter ones. Also make sure to close the blinds and windows at night or when you’re about to leave the house. Heavy rain and strong winds could conspire and decide to come into your abode uninvited.

Check your food supply and batteries in stock. Be ready for power outages and other emergencies.

Rainy Season Means Home-y Season

Apr

Some people associate the rain with some gloomy emotions like melancholy and loneliness. This happens because the onset of rain sometimes prompts one to bail out on fun outdoor activities and one feels compelled to stay at home and mope. But when one comes to think of the situation, judging the rain as a ‘party pooper’ is a hasty verdict. While it is true that the rain prompts one to stay indoors, this does not mean that a person ‘stuck’ to go nowhere has nothing good to do in his house. All that needs to be done is to garnish the house a bit to give it a more home-y feel.

Dust up and your favorite love chair or couch. It would be lovely to cuddle up for warmth with a warm cup of coffee or cocoa while reading your favorite book or listening to a record. Cuddling with a loved one tops everything though.

Clean your windows. It would be peaceful and relaxing to turn the lights down and just watch the rain from a pleasant vantage point.

Change your drapes and curtains. Go with the warmer colors and designs. Try not to put in heavy drapes as this will make the place dark instead of charmingly dim. Light up scented candles and incense of mint and other cool scents to set a more relaxing mood.
